Common Auto Parts that Require Replacement
Cars and trucks are made up of hundreds of different parts that work together in order to ensure the vehicle runs safely and reliably. As part of routine maintenance some of these parts need to be replaced at certain mileage points to ensure that the vehicle does not suffer from decreased performance. In fact, if some of these parts aren't replaced, your vehicle may not be able to run at all. Here are a few of the parts that need replacement most often.
The air filter is responsible for removing impurities from the incoming oxygen that is mixed with the gasoline in the combustion chamber. If dirt and dust made it into the engine it could cause damage, or even ignite a fire under the hood. A dirty air flow can result in increased fuel consumption, so be sure to replace it as necessary.
The fuel filter has a similar job to that of the air filter, but on the other end of things. If the fuel filter ends up clogged, it could prevent the proper amount, or any, gas from getting to the combustion chamber, meaning your car isn't going to run right or at all. This is a cheap and easy filter to replace on most vehicles.
Just like the batteries in your TV remote, car batteries will do and need to be replaced from time to time. Though the issue is a bit more dire, as instead of not being able to switch channels without getting off the couch, you won't be able start your car. Most batteries last between two and five years, depending on the brand.
Spark plugs are what ignite the air and fuel mixture in the combustion chamber. They are fed an electrical charge which causes them to spark, leading to the tiny explosion inside the engine. If the spark plugs become corroded they could misfire, leading to a poor running engine.
Your car uses a number of special fluids to operate. From time to time the fluids need to be drained and refilled to ensure that they are free of contaminants, a service known as a fluid flush. Commonly, a vehicle will need a coolant flush, power steering fluid flush transmission fluid flush or brake fluid flush.
If your car is due for scheduled services be sure to have it done. If your car is between factory maintenance but doesn't seem to be running right, it may be time for a tune up, when the above services may be completed.
