Not many of us are skilled and knowledgeable about auto repairs, which can put us in a vulnerable position. Fortunately, you don't have to be a mechanic to know what to look for when selecting the right auto repair facility to work on your vehicle. Knowing how to find an honest auto repair shop is important and will ensure a harmonious relationship between you and your trustworthy auto repair facility.
1. Are they partnered with AAA?
The first step in ensuring that you are doing business with a trustworthy auto repair facility is by selecting ones that are approved by AAA. To earn a recommendation from AAA, auto repair businesses must maintain high performance standards.
2. Are their technicians ASE certified?
You should also check to see if the technicians are ASE certified. The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is a non-profit organization that was designed to promote quality automotive repairs and service. Technicians who are certified by the ASE have proven themselves to be educated, skilled, and professional.
3. Are there a bunch of online complaints?
Doing research can also help you determine if the shop is a trustworthy auto repair facility. By doing a simple Google search you can see if there are any complaints against the business. Another place to search for negative complaints against a company is by searching the Better Business Bureau.
4. How do you know if they're on the “up and up”?
- Look around and see if the hourly labor rate is posted. This will ensure that you and everyone else are getting charged the same fee for labor.
- If they won't give you a written estimate when asked a red flag should go up immediately.
- If it's a costly repair, always get a second opinion. Once the second shop confirms the problem, then you can go back to the original shop.
- Once you have found a trustworthy auto repair facility, forge a relationship by being a loyal customer.
